Awhile ago, I did a speed paint of Carol Danvers in her new Captain Marvel costume. The piece earned such a positive response that I figured I ought to do it again - but with some real time and effort. Here’s the result.
This was also a lesson reinforced. Back your stuff up! A computer failure could have caused me to lose weeks of work, but fortunately an automatic back-up averted a major disaster. In the end, I only had to redo her hair. I’m sure it was better the second time around anyway. I had good practice!
It’s been a REALLY long time since I’ve done any digital painting in this level of detail. I have to say… it feels pretty good.

Here is why I was so frustrated over the shift key incident. I was working on this and wanted to finish it!
Carol Danvers, in both of her alter egos.
Okay gumbo time is now, peace!

Marvel is starting a new Captain Marvel book, but instead of casting some guy from another planet who looks exactly like a human, they’re giving Carol “Ms. Marvel” Danvers a promotion. That’s a good move. Kelly Sue DeConnick is writing the thing, and that’s also a good move. I’m not lettering the book or anything, but I think the concept sounds fun and I dig the new costume.
Captain Marvel #1 hits the stands this July.

Greg Pak’s Pakcast 003 - Kelly Sue DeConnick & Greg Pak talk “Captain Marvel” & “X-Treme X-Men”
My favorite part is where I almost let Greg talk, but then interrupt to tell him who the lead in his book is.

If I try to push up from the inside I’ll bust through the roof. I’d have to choose between saving the you or saving the plane. And I just bought the damned thing.
